Effect of Carthami Flos Aqua - acupuncture by density on the Contents of Catecholamine in the Several Regions of Brain in Rats

Abstract
In order to study the effect of Carthami Flos(C.F.) aqua-acupuncture by density on the contents of catecholamine in the several regions of brain in rats, 5 %, 10 % and 20 % C.F. extract solution of aqua-acupuncture were conducted every day for 5 days on the corresponding bilateral loci to Kollyun(BL_(60)) of human body.
Analgesic effect on the pain induced by subcutaneous injected of 0.l§¢ of sterile 5% formolin into the dorsal poration of the right hindfoot of rat was studied by measuring the contents of norepinephrine and dopamine in frontal cortex, striatum, amygdala and hippocampus in rats. High-performance liquid chromatography was used for measuring the contents of the norepinephrine and dopamine.
The following results have been ovtained:
1. In the frontal cortex, Norepinephrine was decreased with signficance in the 10 % and 20 % C.F. aqua-acupuncture groups compoared with the control group; and dopamine was not changed in al the groups compared with control group.
2. In the striatum, norepinephrine was decreased with significance in the 10 % and 20 % C.F. aqua-acupuncture groups; and dopamine was decreased with significance in the 10 % and 20 % C.F. aqua-acupuncture groups compared with control group.
3. In the amybgdaly, norepinephrine was not changed significantly in all the groups, but dopamine was decreased significantly in the 10 % and 20 % C.F. aqua-acupuncture groups compared with control group.
4. In the hippocampus, norepinephrine was decreased with significance in the 10 % and 20 % C.F. aqua-acupuncture groups; dopamine was decreased significantly in the 5 % and 20 % C.F. aqua-acupuncture groups compared with control group.
